Cheezels. Sweaty palms. Loud music. The Awkward Years is a 20-minute party leading you back through your pubescent years on an emotional roller coaster of embarrassing fondling and clumsy memories. isthisyours? grab your hand, pull you under the table and spin the bottle.

Adelaide theatre company isthisyours? knows what it’s doing. You’ll chuckle, you’ll get nostalgic — and you’ll leave feeling grateful you’re not going to school on Monday.

Perfectly located in the intimately small Rastelli at the Royal Croquet Club, youare left with nowhere to turn and run.  Steele addresses everyone by name, courtesy of the hand written nametags given out before the show, and manages to bring everyone’s walls crashing down.

...the audience plays a running game of pass the parcel, and two strangers become romantically entangled in the gloom, a reminder of those first, furtive hookups that somehow never leave us (no matter how drunk we were).

The Awkward Years is something everyone should see for a night of fun. We’re taken through school discos and that awful memory of throwing back black sambuca...and getting told by your parents that ‘it’s not that they’re mad…it’s just that they’re disappointed.
